Supporting STARK with Engaging Sponsorship Activations
Reading time 3 min.
How do you turn a football sponsorship from something fans see into something they actively want to participate in? That question shaped our long-term collaboration with STARK. Over several years, WaveCrest has worked with STARK across multiple creative and commercial initiatives, but the clearest answer to that question came through one idea: great sponsorship activations don't just create visibility — they create participation.
Why Participation Works
The mechanics are simple, but they compound fast. Give people a low barrier to entry — a game anyone can pick up in seconds — and you get competition. Competition draws spectators. Spectators create social energy. That energy pulls in more participants. And the more people play, in front of more people watching, the stronger the brand memory becomes. It's a loop, not a one-off moment.
We built STARK's Danish Football Union sponsorship activation around exactly this loop, using a classic Danish schoolyard game as the format. It's a game everyone already knows how to play, which is precisely why it works: no explanation needed, no hesitation to join in.
A Fan Zone That Feels Alive
Picture the scene at a fan zone before kickoff: a kid challenges their dad to a rematch he can't win. Two friends turn a five-minute game into a running rivalry that lasts the whole event. A small crowd gathers to watch, and within minutes some of them have stepped up to play themselves. Live hosts keep the energy moving, turning what could be a quiet corner activity into the centerpiece of the pre-match atmosphere.
This is what we mean by participation over visibility: fans aren't just seeing STARK's name, they're spending twenty minutes inside an experience STARK made possible.

STARK Built Into the Experience, Not Just Around It
The mobile football arena itself is constructed entirely from materials and products available in STARK stores. That's a deliberate choice. It means STARK isn't a logo on a banner beside the game — it's physically part of the game. Fans playing on the arena are, in a very literal sense, standing on the brand's product range.
In 2026, the collaboration expanded to unite both women's and men's football experiences, and with that came a more connected journey between three touchpoints: STARK's retail stores, the live fan zone, and the sponsorship itself. The materials fans see and play on at the fan zone are the same ones available on STARK's shelves — so the experience at the match doesn't end at the final whistle. It gives fans a reason to connect the fun they had in the fan zone back to the STARK stores they pass every week, closing the loop between sponsorship, retail, and live experience rather than treating them as three separate efforts.
Results That Reflect the Approach
The activation has toured extensively across Denmark, appearing at more than 50 football events in collaboration with Danish Football Union and national team fan zones. On average, each event generates more than 500 direct participant interactions and over 5,000 indirect brand impressions through surrounding audiences.
We don't start by asking how we can make the sponsor more visible. We ask how we can get fans more involved. When people are playing, competing, and pulling their friends in to join, the brand becomes part of the memory — not just the backdrop to it.
